The Committee

You can email the whole committee at: au-underwater-committee@bristol.ac.uk.

Diving Officer: Christopher Owens

As Diving Officer of UBUC my job is to make sure all the diving and training that we do within the club is both safe and fun. I aim to get us a full diving calendar for the year so if you've got any ideas for trips get in touch. I can help you organise a trip to suit your diving interests, or point you to some one who can. There are many people in the club who can tell you about anything and everything to do with diving.

I also work closely with the training officer (Kate) and the extended training officer (Mike) to organise the training schedule. I make sure that the training we give you is not only fun but meets all the requirement set out by BSAC. If you want a chat about anything you can find me at training and on a trip any weekend I can:
christopher.m.owens@gmail.com

President: Craig Rockliffe

My job is to make sure the running of the club ‘appears’ as seamlessly smooth as possible. I am also the link between UBUC members, the committee and the Athletic Union. I chair the committee’s fortnightly meetings, so if you would like an issue raised – just email me.

For a weekly update on club matters, see the weekly bulletin I send out every Sunday. Do read it, it’s full of exciting and important things! If you’d like to add to it the following week, again, just email me!

I’m always around, whether it be in the pool, in stores, in the pub or underwater – so I’ll hopefully see you around:

Training Officer: Kate Jopling

Hi! As Training Officer, I organise BSAC Ocean and Sports Diver training (both the practical and theoretical sides). The Ocean Diver course is a brilliant introduction to anyone interested in starting diving. If you already dive and have attained qualifications with other organisations, we run a comprehensive crossover program.

All training is provided during term-time in the form of one theory lecture a week (on Tuesdays) and a one hour pool session at the Union on either a Tuesday or a Friday evening all held at the Student's Union Building.

If you have any questions, are interested in training or helping out with instructing please don't hesitate to e-mail me: k.jopling@lineone.net

Extended Training Officer: Mike Shepherd

I organise most of the training above Sports Diver level; namely Dive Leader, Advanced Diver and Instructor courses. We also run Skill development courses throughout the year such as boat handling, practical rescue management and first aid for divers to name a few. They are all good courses to take if you want to learn more about other areas of diving, and if there are any that take your fancy in particular drop me a line:

Vice President and Communications Officer: Mhairi Kerr

As if you thought diving wasn't fun enough on its own, I'm responsible for organising all the social events out of the water (and if you ask really nicely a few underwater ones too - take a look at the underwater olympics photos...).

I will try and make sure you all get involved with the club and realise what lovely people we are, particularly on the better side of a few G&Ts or the odd pint. I'm always open to suggestions for socials, so if you have any ideas feel free to let me know: mk6425@bristol.ac.uk

Equipment Officer: Will Zhou

I am here to make sure all of the club equipment is up to date, serviced and working so that diving with the club is easy and problem free. I am also in charge of buying in new club gear and equipment for new trainees. We’ve got a whole load of equipment in the club so looking after it all requires a lot of organisation.

If you have any questions regarding diving gear or borrowing kit feel free to email me: W.Zhou.06@bristol.ac.uk

Boats Officer: Jonny Turner

I look after the club boats and all the associated bits and pieces that go with them. As well as the two inflatable boats and their shiny new engines, UBUC has a boat trailer, echosounders, DSC and VHF radios, a GPS, flares, tools, spare parts... a whole host of gadgets each with its own particular maintenance needs.

Diving off the club boats is awesome so if you want to help organise a club boat trip or just learn more about the boats email me: jonny.turner@bristol.ac.uk

Treasurer: Sophie Arndtz

As treasurer, my job is to look after the club accounts. You can give money or cheques to me or any of the other committee members. My email address is

Secretary: Helen Rotsey

As secretary, my job is to keep a record of the committee's decisions by writing the agendas and minutes for all our meetings. This saves you the trouble of actually attending them!

If you have any new ideas or issues that you would like to be brought up, don't hesitate to contact me. I'll keep you all informed of the club's goings on through regular e-mails or just ask for a round-up next time you see me!

I'm also in charge of BSAC membership so any questions regarding that get in touch: hr5389@bristol.ac.uk
