Organising Trips

This is just a simple guide on how to go about organising your own trips.
Before you go:
1. Decide your destination, type (charter, club boats, shore dive) and level the dive is suitable for (OD, SD etc)
2. Check with Diving Officer & Equipment officer (and Boats Officer if taking club boats)
3. Send email to club containing: When, where, who for, approx cost, request for info
4. Ensure there is an Advanced Diver or a Dive Leader as necessary on the trip then organise instructors (if needed), transport (average 2.5 people per car) and potential dive rota
5. Send an email to those going on the trip containing at least the time to meet and who is going in each car
6. Email Equipment Officer informing them of what kit is needed and when for
7. Email the DO the names of the people on the trip so that s/he can register trip with the Safety Office in Union
8. Check weather – if its bad you may need to cancel or change your plans
9. Organise travel route ensure all drivers have a copy, might be a good idea to exchange phone numbers in case people do get lost!
10. Final equipment check (top up bottles, spares, O2 kit etc), check tide times and final check with Advanced Diver
Equipment check list:
• Stabs (+ a spare)
• Regs (+ a spare)
• Reels
• SMBs
• Shore first aid kit
• Equipment spares box (small blue toolbox )
• D.O bag (black chemistry conference thing). Has lots of info including emergency procedures, shore marshalling stuff, training information etc.
• Oxygen administration kit
• Drinking water
• Weightbelts (in boat shed)
Go Diving!
When you get back:
11. Contact Diving Officer to confirm all went well
12. Collect the money, remembering any for the club and to split petrol money evenly
13. Write the trip report and email to club
You need to be aware that ALL dive trips need to be registered with the union. All the required information should be made available to the safety office in the union at the latest on the Thursday before the weekend trip .
